Compression

« Back to Glossary Index

Compression

Compression is a pressing together or bunching up. Materials can be compressed into a smaller space. Gases are more easily compressed than solids and liquids. Waves can also be compressed. When sound travels through the air, the vibrating sound causes alternate compressions and decompressions in the air molecules.
