Evaporation

« Back to Glossary Index

Evaporation is the process of converting a liquid into a vapour without the liquid reaching boiling point. The fastest moving molecules in the liquid get enough energy to allow them to escape from the surface of the liquid and to form a gas.

Evaporation also takes place from the surface of solids too and can be observed when solids lose moisture and dry out. It can also be seen when drying clothes in the Sun.
