Balanced and Unbalanced Forces

« Back to Glossary Index

Objects are often acted on by more than one force. The result of this is dependent on the strength of these forces. If two equal forces were acting in opposite directions then the object would remain motionless. If however one were greater than the other the object would move in the direction of the strongest force.

When two balanced forces acting on an object and the object remains still.

When two unbalanced forces act upon an object the object will  move in the direction of the greatest force- here towards rhe right.
