« Back to Glossary Index

Reptiles are vertebrate animals that breath air. They are covered in a skin made up of scales bony plates or in some cases both, examples of reptiles includes crocodiles, snake, lizards, tortoises and turtles.

Reptiles, unlike mammals and birds do not keep their bodies at a constant internal temperature and are cold-blooded animals. They do not have hair/fur or feathers to give them a layer or insulation so seek shelter when in warm conditions and tend to become inactive when the weather is cold.
