A seed is the part of a plant which is able to grow, over time, into a new plant. Seeds vary in size, shape and overall appearance, some a very small and difficult to handle, others are comparatively large and weigh many kilogrammes. Despite this all seeds do have some things in common. This includes an embryo (containing the tissues that will develop into roots and shoots), a supply of nutrients and a seed coat.
