A circuit is a group of components linked together with a conductive material that allows electricity to pass through. There are two types of circuits that primary age children learn about, series and parallel.

A series circuit consists of just one route for the flow of electricity. If there is a break in the circuit, the electricity stops flowing.

A parallel circuit consist of several routes along which the electricity flows. If there were a break in a parallel circuit, the current would flow along an unbroken section.
